Today it is starting to feel like late September. We just had days of record high temperatures here in Chicago, and I am pretty sure I was one of the few people delighting in a few extra hot days. But sweater weather is lovely, too. I am taking morning walks now in green spaces (doctor's orders, I rather like this new prescription) and I am looking forward to slowly taking in the seasonal changes. We'll see how I feel about that 2 months from now, but I am trying to enjoy the here and now. Today I went for a walk in the Bobolink Meadow in Jackson Park.
Chicago doesn't have the best weather, so I enjoy every moment I can. And here is where I get all serious with you (and me.) Harsh as our winters (or summers) can be, for the most part, if we have a rood over our head, we are safe here. This Summer has not been so kind to other parts of our country, so I am shifting the focus of my charitable giving for a while to hurricane relief, especially with Puerto Rico in mind. In the past I have been sharing my profits with the Southern Poverty Law Center, and on Mother's day I gave money to the Mama's Bail Out Day campaign. But right now, Puerto Rico needs us to step up and help, so for the next few months, that's where a portion of every sale will go. I have chosen Americares as the charity I will be sending money to, since they rated well on Charity Navigator.
In the meantime, I will keep walking in the morning in part because it is a nice way to start the day, and in part because I want to get better. I don't talk about my personal life too much around here, but I have had migraines since I was a teenager. Ater a few brief years of thinking I had them under control, they're back, so here I am, trying to regain control over my head and body. This time around I am older and a better advocate for myself, and have managed to find a good neurologist that specializes in migraines. I have a really good feeling about this new doctor, and about this new script. Oh, there are pills, too. But that's not a bad thing if they help.
Now, I have orders to work on, and a pile of rings to prepare for Rhinebeck!! (More on that soon.)
